Pastel Pick of the Week | Pastel Society of America Call for Entries

Let me set the scene: It’s a lovely September evening in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. You walk up the steps and into the historic National Arts Club—a club whose early charter members included Robert Henri, Frederic Remington, George Bellows and William Merritt Chase. Inside, you walk into a room where the walls are brimming with one inspiring pastel after another. There, on a wall to the right, hangs your own painting—a piece you knew was special the moment you set down your pastel stick after the final stroke. In moments, the awards banquet will begin, and you will be among several dozen artists being honored with an award. This is wonderful, of course, but you realize, it’s just the icing on the cake. The joy began when you first received the news that your pastel had been juried into the Pastel Society of America’s 44th annual juried exhibition, “Enduring Brilliance,” and then hit its peak when you saw your painting hanging, in this wonderful arts venue, alongside the work of so many other amazing pastel artists and friends.
