The Time is Now to Enter the 18th Annual Pastel 100 Competition

It’s Labor Day weekend, the unofficial nod to the end of summer, when we celebrate by spending some time at the pool, enjoying a picnic with family and—of course—submitting our best pastel paintings into the annual Pastel 100 Competition. The deadline for entry is on Tuesday, September 6, so use this weekend to make your selections and enter them here.

Daud Akhriev’s pastel, Chloe (19×25) earned him the Richeson Pastel Silver Award in the 17th Annual Pastel 100 Competition and $1,500 worth of Richeson/Unison pastel tools and supplies.

The Importance of Sharing Your Work

Having your painting talent recognized and earning an award in an art competition are, of course, satisfying and worthy goals, but I’ve always felt that one of the greatest benefits of participation in the Pastel 100, and other juried exhibitions and competitions, is simply getting to put your work in front of the eyes of top professionals who share your passion for pastel. As Robert Carsten, a juror for the 17th Annual Pastel 100, so aptly put it: “Entering shows is really about sharing, not competing. Share the best of what you have and find contentment in this—no matter the results.”

The Pastel Journal editorial team and the following jurors—each a distinguished pastel artist—are truly looking forward to viewing your latest, greatest work in pastel:

  • Landscape + Interior—Barbara Jaenicke
  • Portrait + Figure—Vianna Szabo
  • Still Life + Floral—Brian Bailey
  • Animal + Wildlife—Elizabeth Ganji
  • Abstract + Non-Objective—Marcia Holmes

You’ll find all the details about awards and prizes, criteria and frequently asked questions on the competition entry page. Good luck!
