5th Annual Shades of Gray Drawing Competition Winners Announced

Drawing magazine is excited to announce the winners of its fifth annual Shades of Gray drawing competition, which is open to work in any drawing media produced entirely in black-and-white tones.

Shades of Gray | Drawing Competition | Artist's NetworkThe grand-prize winner is Julio Reyes, of Forth Worth, Texas. First place is awarded to Katherine Young, of San Francisco. Second place goes to Agnes Grochulska of Henrico, Virginia; and third place to Janet Evander, of College Park, Maryland. Ten artists are receiving honorable-mention awards: Hélène Brunet, Chi-Han Cheng, Tracy Frein, Kathleen Kornprobst, Sookyi Lee, Ling Liu, Tara Merkt, Oliver Sin, Dexter Welcome and LiGang Zheng.

The winning artworks will appear in the spring 2017 issue of Drawing, and will also be unveiled on Artist’s Network at that time.

This is Reyes’ second victory in a Drawing competition; he was also the winner of a competition hosted by the magazine in 2011. Returning to the winner’s circle from last year’s competition are Cheng, who won the grand prize in 2015 ; and Brunet, who is an honorable-mention winner for a second year in a row.
